Hello, my name is Elisabeth Amspacher-Philemon, and I have worked at ECPI since January of 2004.
I graduated from Mars Hill College in Mars Hill , North Carolina with a B.S. in Business Administration. Currently, I am pursuing dual master's degrees in Business Administration and Health Administration through Pfeiffer University in Charlotte , North Carolina. For the first year and a half of my master's degrees I was an in seat student, but due to a job transfer (my husband) we were relocated about two hours from the campus. Now, I am finishing the rest of my courses online, so I have a knowledge base for the workings of online education. I have witnessed the good, the bad, and the ugly!
An on-line class allows students a lot of flexibility though it requires students to be quite disciplined as well. In order to learn and comprehend better, it's very important to have lively discussions with the students.
The business world is a very dynamic and evolving sector, and there is so much happening an impacting our daily activities and our economy. As an instructor, it is my mission to incorporate business theories, and their relation to real world examples. Oh yeah, and we will have fun!

AIM: Rargiento
Hi there! My name is Ralph Argiento. I was born in NYC (go Yankees!), I'm married and have 3 children.
I have been teaching networking classes at the Greensboro campus since 1999. Before joining ECPI, I was in the IT field for over 20 years. I was a cross between Houdini and MacGyver, I could create any system with a computer and some duct tape.
Working with computers can be very stressful, so I try to incorporate humor in the class to relieve all the tension. I enjoy the flexibility and freedom of teaching in the online environment. I feel that for an online student to be successful, they need to be disciplined and organized.

I was born in
St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. I currently reside in
Gainesville Florida. I graduated from Ridgeway-Crystal
Beach High School in Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada. I then
pursued my Bachelor of Science in Statistics at the
University of Western Ontario located in London,
Ontario, Canada. I received my Masters degree in
Statistics with Emphasis in Biostatistics from the
University of Florida. Go Gators! I have extensive
experience in the field of Statistics and have been
teaching online for some time now.
My teaching philosophy is that the students are number
one. Our goal as instructors is to facilitate the
learning environment for everyone. In an online
environment there are many adjustments that need to
occur to make the student feel like you are standing
right in front of them. The main way that is
accomplished is maintaining constant contact with all
the students. I truly enjoy teaching because I can
communicate information and make math a language that
everyone can understand and actually enjoy.

I've taught composition and creative writing for four years, and have been at ECPI for the past three terms. As the son of a journalist, the importance of words has been part of my existence since I can remember. My passions are reading and writing, so it makes perfect sense that I continue this through teaching. I have a bachelor's degree in journalism and a Master's in creative writing, and my job history includes truck driving, landscaping, package delivery, painting, and newspaper reporting.
My Teaching Philosophy: There persists a common belief that good writers are simply born. Don't believe the hype. Like any skill, writing can be learned. But improvement requires practice, and lots of it. Despite the personal nature of writing, there are common approaches to becoming a stronger, more confident writer. And this plays right into my online course objectives and approach to teaching writing and critical thinking. I believe in individual attention among a community of writers, which is what we strive to create in online courses. It can be difficult, but like anything worthwhile, hard work and struggle are necessary to reap rewards.

Joannah Bruscell
Email: jbruscell@ecpi.edu
AIM: jbruscell
Hello, I'm Mrs. Bruscell. I've been teaching at the Charlotte campus for a year, and I think online classes offer exciting possibilities for students and for instructors.
My online teaching philosophy includes the idea that people learn more in classes where there is a lot of participation—where different views and opinions are expressed and knowledge is shared and created through the process of class discussion.
The online realm interests me because it allows the class discussion process to become more thoughtful and precise. People participating in online discussions tend to think carefully about what they “say” because they have to write their words. Online discussions also allow people more time to think about their responses, so often those responses are more clear and thorough than they would be if people were just speaking to each other face to face.
Furthermore, online discussions are more inclusive than those that take place in an inseat class; students who normally would not ask or answer questions may feel much more comfortable doing so online.

Hello! My name
is Ms. Breining. I have taught various on line computer
and networking courses at ECPI since May 2007. Before
that (in one of my many jobs) I provided adult education
and training in information systems through my employer.
I have really enjoyed teaching in an online forum. What
a better venue than teaching computers on line?! In my
on line classes I try to adopt a reasonable approach to
course work and make myself available for any extra
attention that a student may need. For instance, if
there is a concept that is just not making sense, if the
student will drop me a note we can set up some
individual time (in addition to my regular office hours)
to explore it.
Information systems and computers affect almost every
part of our lives. It pays to understand how they work,
what they can do for you, and how to use them to an
advantage. There is nothing to be afraid of when it
comes to computers. Often there is nothing that can't be
restored, even though it may take a little effort. The
more that is learned about computers and information
systems, the less trepidation in working with them.
As a budding scholar, it is important that students put
forth a great effort. The extra mile is what everyone
looks for; teachers, employers, supervisors, and the
like. Whatever effort the student gives in my class is
truly appreciated. I understand that many of my students
are working adults with families, businesses, jobs, as
well as trying to better their opportunities through
education. I know that the effort the student makes to
do well in the class will pay off at least double in
their future.
Good luck in all you do!

Jaqueline Calloway
Email: jcalloway@ecpi.edu
Hello! My name is Jacqueline Calloway and I am an adjunct business instructor for the ECPI Online Department. I did not begin my career in the field of teaching, but in some ways it is my true calling. I graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering. After 5 exciting years in the oil industry as a Production Engineer for Amoco (now part of British Petroleum), I married a Naval Officer and began a whirlwind journey of travel and adventure. We lived all over the United States and oversees before heading to Hampton Roads. We have lived here for 4 years and love the warm weather, friendly people and relaxed life style. During our adventures in Texas , I received my Masters in Business Administration from Texas A&M in Corpus Christi.
Aside from my time on oil rigs and offshore platforms, I have done extensive work in corporate training, compliance, organizational development, and mentoring. I am excited to be moving into the world of academia. My father is a business professor, former Dean of the College of Business at Delaware State and an entrepreneur. I credit him with helping cultivate my philosophy on education. Education is ongoing, each day we have the opportunity to learn something new, expand our views and share that knowledge to enrich someone else's life. As an instructor, my goal to provide a stimulating and challenging learning experience in which each student is encouraged to keep an open mind, to question their own understanding and perspectives, and to learn to appreciate other points of view.
My husband Curtis and I have a beautiful one year old daughter, named Zaria. Our time in Hampton Roads is coming to an end, we will be moving further north in a few months.
I am sure that will be many more adventures, both in and out of the online classroom. I am thrilled to be part of the ECPI Online Team.

Denise Camillo
Email:

Hello, my name is Denise Camillo and
I have been teaching online at ECPI since November of
2006. I am married, have two boys, and currently live in
Pennsylvania.
I graduated from Arcadia University with a B.S. in
Computer Science and then moved on to completing my M.S.
in Computer Information Systems at the University of
Phoenix Online. Since I received my Master’s degree
fully online, I understand my student’s perspectives
when it comes to juggling family, work, and school all
at the same time.
I have taught various computer and business courses for
several colleges and Universities, as well as dabbled in
the development of online courses and online tutoring.
Before becoming an instructor, I was a Medical
Laboratory Technician and worked in a variety of
different types of laboratories.
I believe that there are two key traits that one most
possess to be successful in the online environment. The
first is time management. We must manage our time well
to include all aspects of our lives so that we don’t
fall behind in our studies. Remember five weeks can fly
by! The second is communication. Since we can’t see each
other, our best means of learning is through
communication. It is best to keep active in the
discussion boards, as well as keeping in direct contact
with me. If you don’t tell me that you are in need of
help, I will not know.
I look forward to getting to meet all of you.

ourselves” William Shakespeare.

Hello everyone.
My name is Dr. Ali Choudhry, and I have been teaching
online and on-campus courses for several years. I joined
ECPI as an online instructor and have been teaching
Criminal Justice and Statistics courses. I find that the
online platform is an excellent resource in that it
allows everyone to manage their time according to their
own schedules, yet provides a level of interaction
amongst peers that even face to face classes don’t.
It is important for me as an instructor to provide my
students with all the resources and feedback that they
require in order to succeed. However, it is equally
important that my students take an active role in their
own success. In order to do so, it is imperative that
everyone participate actively in discussions and ask
questions so that everyone can benefit from them. I
don’t know where you are having problems, unless you
tell me!
I will work with you on an on-going basis to help you
with any problem areas you may encounter, and will
provide you with timely, constructive feedback. However,
remember to stay on track and submit assignments on
time. These are demanding classes, and time is limited.
If you fall behind, try to catch up immediately, or else
you will have a hard time completing all your required
work at the end. I hope that every one of you will
maintain an open line of communication amongst
yourselves as well as with me.
I look forward to working with you!!

Hello! My name
is Wendy Davis. I have taught various Networking and
related Computer courses for several years now, both
in-seat and online. From my personal experience,
teaching effectiveness will be obtained when all of my
students feel the online classroom experience exceeds
every opportunity of the physical classroom. I attempt
to improvement my strategy to keep the student’s
reading, writing, and interacting that build the body of
knowledge among all of us.
Since online education separates students from their
peers and instructors, it is important to create an
atmosphere of interaction. From personal experience,
communication is the key. I do this by providing
discussion boards, online live chat rooms, contact
information, and availability hours. Assignments and
quizzes prepare the student to master the skill or
material and gain a personal level of competence. I
believe student contribution to the discussions provides
more than one way to solidify a problem, therefore,
increase the mastery level of the attempted skill.
I look forward to working with you!

Hello, my name is Anita Finkle. I am a math instructor for both the Online and Roanoke campuses of ECPI. I am a graduate of West Virginia University. I earned my B.S. in Secondary Education with Certifications to teach Math and Spanish, and an M.A. in Secondary Math Education. Since I attended college on an ROTC scholarship and wanted to try other adventures, I spent six years as a military intelligence officer in the army before going into education. I moved on to my next career as a high school math teacher while I lived in North Carolina. I taught for five years at a high school in Fayetteville, NC and for one year at a high school in Wilmington, NC. When I moved to Roanoke I was fortunate to find a position teaching math at ECPI. I truly enjoy the students, faculty, and staff that I work with. I also enjoy meeting more interesting characters in the online environment!
My husband and I run trail races and ultra marathons most weekends and we are active members of running clubs in Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. We have two sweet dogs named Kita (German Shepherd/Beagle mix) and Muneca (Lab/Bulldog or Boxer mix).
My philosophy of education:
One of the high school principals I worked for said it best: "We don't teach Math/English/Computers/etc.--we teach students." I see the math content as a tool to help you develop the problem solving and reasoning skills that can be used in all areas of your life.

Hello! My name is Julie Gepp, and I have been teaching English classes at ECPI, both online and in-seat, since April, 2000. In addition to ECPI, I have instructed courses for the University of Phoenix online, Tidewater Community College, Old Dominion University, Commonwealth College, and Longwood University.
One of my educational philosophies is that instructors should foster an environment of teamwork and constant interaction and an environment in which the instructor is learning just as much as the participants. This is the environment that I want to achieve in each class. While my goal is to successfully guide you through the course, I consider each new class a learning experience for me as well as for you, and I look forward to this academic exchange of ideas.

Catherine Gorman
Email: cgorman@ecpitech.edu
My name is Mrs. Gorman. On a
personal note, I am married and have two children. We live
on about four acres and share our home with one dog and a
cat. Busy, busy!
I work for the online campus. I received my Masters of
Fine Arts in Writing from Virginia Commonwealth University
and was an editor and technical writer before joining
ECPI. When the "dot.com" for which I was employed became a
"dot.gone," I started at ECPI as a night adjunct
instructor teaching English. I quickly became addicted to
the classroom environment as my role here grew.
I love language, how it evolves and shapes its
environment, and love sharing that passion with my
students. I believe English is more than writing papers
and reading "great works of art." Writing is truly a
mixture of art and craft, and anyone can learn to hone
their writing/ language skills.
Even if you do not like writing or see yourself as a
writer...I will be here to help you every step of the way.
Some students see writing as a gift or talent that a
person either has or does not have. While it is true that
some people seem to have more of an inborn ability than
others, it is simply a skill. Like any other skill we can
hone our craft of writing and improve upon it -- no matter
what our starting point in "natural ability" may be. Even
if you are a wonderful writer...creative, poetic, a true
artiste'...you too can improve upon your current skills in
writing. We are all here to learn and to teach others,
because ALL of us have valuable lessons to impart. Just
remember that you are NOT alone. You have not only me, as
your instructor, as a resource but your classmates as
well.
I am excited to work with you all.

Kim
Hogan
Email: khogan@ecpi.edu
Hello! My name is Kim Hogan. I
teach various on-line Accounting classes here at ECPI. I
have taught Accounting II and III; Payroll Accounting;
and Financial Auditing. Accounting can, at times, be
tedious and complex to understand; however, it is my
hope to bring enthusiasm to the course which will in
turn produce learning.
At first glance, Accounting can seem overwhelming.
However, with hard work, discipline, and yes, lots of
practice, it can be very rewarding. Nothing makes me
happier as an instructor than to see a student have an
“I get it” moment! That moment when everything finally
clicks for them and what was once a difficult concept is
now mastered.
My teaching philosophy is very simple. Learning is a two
way street; it is both the instructor and the student’s
responsibility for learning to occur. I believe that it
is the instructor’s responsibility to prepare curricula
that prepares learners for current and future endeavors.
I also believe it is the student’s responsibility to
take an active role in his/her education by attempting
to grasp and comprehend the subject material so that
they can apply it to their current or future occupation.
I believe that learning is 99% “want to” and 1% ability.
If you have the drive and passion to learn, nothing can
stop you.
I look forward to working with each of you!!

Corey Keating
Email: ckeating@ecpi.edu
I started my college education by earning two bachelors degrees, one in classical studies (ancient Latin and Greek language and history) and the other in business, with a concentration in information systems. The classical studies degree was for personal interest and the business degree was for more practical reasons – like getting a job. :-) My exposure to programming and computers was something I really enjoyed, so I returned to get a bachelors degree in computer science.
For the next fifteen years I worked in the computer industry, mainly with local and wide area networks. During this time I earned multiple industry certifications, including Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Novell Enterprise Certified Netware Engineer, Certified Banyan Specialist, and Compaq Accredited Systems Engineer.
Working with networks and doing technical support was very satisfying; the technology provided a mental challenge and solving people's computer problems (and providing them with business solutions) helped me to make a positive impact on peoples' lives.
A few years ago I went back to college to get some advanced degrees that would qualify me to teach at the college level. I started with a masters degree in theology (again for the personal enrichment and well-rounded education) and then with a masters degree in computer information systems. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University , concentrating in computer security. For the last few years I have taught computer courses at various colleges and continue to do so while finishing my Ph.D.
My Love for Teaching
I enjoy teaching because I have a thirst for knowledge and love to learn. Teaching provides me with the opportunity to learn new things, and more fully understand things that I thought I knew. Furthermore, teaching provides me with great satisfaction knowing that I can make a positive impact on my students' lives. I enjoy seeing the “lights go on” when someone grasps a difficult-to-learn topic and I love to pass on my enthusiasm for learning.
My Hobbies
My wife and I love the out-of-doors, including activities such as backpacking and bird-watching. Three summers ago I hiked over 100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in about 5 days (a challenge for me since I had not done serious backpacking in years!). A couple years ago my wife and I did a one day hike from the north to south rims of the Grand Canyon – 24 miles in one day! That summer we also did a backpacking trip in Yosemite , including a trip to the top of Half Dome – what a fantastic experience! We regularly visit Yosemite National Park whenever we can get time away from our other obligations; this spring the waterfalls were spectacular!

Greetings, all! My name is Kerry Krueger, Computer Networking and Security instructor at ECPI's Raleigh campus. I've been with ECPI for about 3 1/2 years now. I'm fairly new to ECPI's online curriculum, although I'm no stranger to distance education. In fact - just like you - I am an online student as well!
The longer I'm around it, the more I'm convinced that online study is not for everyone. It takes discipline and motivation to stay with a course of study when you don't have the luxury of others around you pushing you along. In my teaching style, I like to emphasize the practical. True - you must have the skills required for your chosen field, but more importantly is the ability to apply them to resolve business issues. Now more than ever, hiring managers want people who are innovative team players. So - let me challenge you to think outside the box. Step back and view the big picture, then apply what you have learned in new and creative ways. It will set you apart from your peers, and make you a valuable resource to your employer!
See you online!

Hello, my
name is Julie. I am an online business education
instructor for ECPI. I earned my Bachelor of Science
in Business Education from the University of Wisconsin
and my MBA from the University of St. Thomas in St.
Paul, MN. I have many years experience in both
management and consulting. I am
certified in JD Edwards Manufacturing and Distribution
Applications. I am certified by APICS, the Association
for Operations Management, as a (CPIM) Certified
Production and Inventory Manager, and also teach CPIM
exam preparation courses. I am also a certified IBM
Professional Consultant.
I feel the
online environment of education is a very important part of
today's education system. It is very open and flexible
and fits extremely well for people in the busy world of
today. It prepares individuals for working in the world of
business through its self-disciplined and self-paced
approach. The student takes a personal responsibility for
his/her education.
I
maintain that you need to have a sense of humor and make
learning fun. We all will do our best if we enjoy what we
are doing. I know I learn something new every day and I
think my students do, too. Learning is a two-way street
between the teacher and the student. We learn from each
other. My favorite quote is, "By learning you will teach,
by teaching you will learn". Latin Proverb.

Education provides an opportunity
for growth and development. During this process, we
evolve; we change. We become better people - better
members of our community and our world. I don’t consider
myself to be an educator. I prefer to think of myself as a
facilitator of change.
Online courses can be an adventure for both the instructor
and for the student. We have a chance to explore new
concepts and skills with people so totally remote and
different from ourselves. I learn as much from students as
they hopefully learn from me.

Hi! I’m
Elizabeth McCarthy, and I’ve taught English classes for
ECPI both in-seat and online. While the courses I teach
are English, it is important to me to remember that I am
teaching students, and that each student has a valuable
voice to add to a community of learners. I’ve been an
online learner, a part-time student with a full-time
job, a full-time student with a part-time job, and I
juggle the responsibilities that come with managing a
home and family along with teaching, so I know how
challenging – and rewarding – pursuing an education can
be.
I love teaching
online since it allows me to work with students of a
wide range of experiences – both in academics and in
“real life,” and those differences make for engaging
discussions and interesting writing. I’ve never taught a
class in which I didn’t learn from my students.
Writing
assignments can be scary, so it is important to me that
students remember that writing isn’t a gift or a knack,
but rather a skill that can be taught, and providing you
lots of feedback and a variety of ways to approach an
assignment are some of the ways I can help you learn
that skill.
I look forward
to working with you all!

Association for Business Communication Annual Conference
in Washington, DC, 2007
Hello! My name
is Dr. McKnight, and I have taught online communication
courses with ECPI since 2005. Teaching communication is
a unique experience, as public speaking is generally one
of the more common fears that people have. I look at it
as a challenge and an opportunity to make an impact in
helping people overcome their fear and anxiety. People
are often very surprised at how much of this anxiety
they conquer in only five weeks.
A common question I have from new students in the course
is, “How do you do a speech class online.” It is much
easier than one might think. I have students record
presentations via camcorder, web cam or some other
similar recording device. Then, they either mail or
upload the presentation so I can view it. We develop and
deliver two presentations in the course; one informative
and one persuasive. In addition to the presentations,
folks tend to learn a great deal in the course that
helps them improve their communication in interpersonal
and small group situations.
If you are considering taking the speech course online,
and have any questions about it at all, please feel free
to send me an email or instant message. I hope to “see”
you in cyberspace soon.

Lindsay Motes
Email: lmotes@ecpi.edu
Greetings to all, and welcome to ECPI College of Technology! I am a psychology and freshman orientation instructor at the Greenville campus, and I have recently started teaching online. Online instruction for me is a great joy. I am amazed at how our unique “personalities” shine through in the online setting. I am not new to online learning as I earned my Master's degree online while I worked with seniors, adults, and even children in the areas of counseling and case management.
I have been an instructor for ECPI since November, 2004 and I am proud to say I leave work everyday with a smile. I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a teacher. Human behavior has always fascinated me.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Music and Education at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. During my time at USC I took several psychology classes. I fell in love with the subject. I began working on a M.S. in family psychology soon after getting married. During that time my husband and I lived on the coast of North Carolina (near the outer banks), had two children, and as I have mentioned, I worked several part-time and full-time jobs in between…whew! Looking back I don't know how I did it at times, but I did!
My children are my joy. My son, Corey, is three-years-old. My daughter, Cameron is five. I love to spend time with them…going to the movies, playing in the yard, or just watching Disney movies. When I do have "me time" I like to read, play piano and sing (blues, classic rock, jazz), and I also enjoy yoga and tai chi. Although just chasing after my kids helps me to stay in shape!
Many of you work full-time, have family responsibilities, and are in school. I am with you there also, as I am currently working on my Ph.D. in psychology. It takes a lot of dedication, determination, and drive…and we can do it!
My philosophy of teaching is this…go with the flow! Maintain a relaxed environment where learning is fun. Be yourself and enjoy the fact that the students consider you to be an expert of your subject. Make time to get to know your students on an individual basis. In every class I teach I am reminded that the students are just as much my teachers and that I, as a teacher, am just as much a student.

Jami Parylak

Hello!
I have been teaching English and Humanities courses for
colleges and universities since 1995. (Wow! Time flies
when you are having fun, right?) Since 1999, I have been
with ECPI. When I first came to ECPI, I earned the
Certificate of Online Instruction from Vanderbilt
University and developed the first fully online class for
the Arts and Sciences Department. Having taught
computer-assisted English classes at other colleges, I had
experience with using technology as a means to educate. To
say, “We've come a long way, baby” is an understatement!
Computer-assisted classes have become online classes, and
ECPI has worked to put many of their programs online, so
the days of only one or two classes offered online is a
fading memory.
After three years
of overseeing the Arts and Sciences division for all ECPI
campuses, I requested to “move aside” and teach full-time
for the online department. This was a fantastic decision,
because I love teaching and I love my students. As an
online instructor, my job is to develop online classes,
present the material in a comprehensive manner,
communicate with the students, assist them as much as
possible, and encourage them every step of the way. I take
great joy in these responsibilities, as it is a true
pleasure to see each student succeed!
I am a
learning-oriented instructor. I believe each student has
the ability to succeed, but I also know they must possess
the desire, motivation, and dedication to do so. No
instructor can “make” a student learn. Each student must
be responsible for working hard, communicating with the
instructor, and completing assignments on time. I can
present the material to a student, but I can't force them
to learn it. In my experience, students with an open mind
and willingness to learn are the most successful:
academically, personally, and professionally.
I have a
wonderful husband, a beautiful daughter, and three
extremely spoiled cats. Life is good.
“Be the change
you wish to see in the world.” - Gandhi

Philip Pearson
Email: ppearson@ecpi.edu
Hi, my name is Philip Pearson and until May of 2004 I was the Department Head for ECPI – Manassas CET department. Since then, I have semi-retired and moved to Palm Coast , Florida where I live with my wife, Sandy and son, Bill. I am now pursuing the good life of sun, golf, shooting, fishing, and music. I play violin and viola and will join a community orchestra in the next few months. I am also an avid combat shooter and my son and I spend lots of time on the beach fishing.
Before ECPI, I worked and retired from Bell Laboratories after 34 years of service. While I was there, I was a circuit and system designer for a number of the major communications systems that we produced.
Just to brag a bit – Bell Laboratories invented most of the communications theory and equipment that has been used for a very long time. I like to say that I have designed, built, tested and introduced to manufacture just about every type of circuit and system known to man but that would be a stretch. Suffice it to say that I have a ton of design experience.

Wendy Porter
Email:
wporter@ecpi.edu
Hello!
My name is Wendy Porter and I teach HUM 205, Culture and
Diversity, as part of the Online Campus. I enjoy
teaching online because each term is different as each
student brings with them an interesting blend of culture
and personal experiences. It is these two elements that
make our classroom interesting and educational. We are
able to learn through each other and hopefully gain a
better understating of what makes us all unique. Culture
and Diversity covers a variety of topics that are
relevant in society. From the basics of what is culture
and diversity to topics in society, education, and the
workplace.
I enjoy teaching online because I get to know students
from all around the globe. While students may be in
Iraq, Italy, or here in the United States, we are able
to log into the classroom and learn together. Distance
education offers the opportunity to learn, to so many
people, and I couldn't be happier to be a part of this!
Building a strong community in an online classroom is
key to learning. Students receive the same education
they would in a traditional online classroom.
Constructive criticism and praise are always a part of
any assignment and my students are always welcome to
stop by during my virtual online office hours. While we
are all scattered around the globe, I'm just an email,
instant message, or a phone call away.

I am one of the online math instructors here at ECPI. I have taught in the traditional setting as well as in the online arena. I enjoy both because I enjoy teaching. I consider myself to be a mentor to students to help them to learn the material needed to be successful in school and in the real world.
I expect students to work hard and strive for excellence. I also expect students to have fun and enjoy the ride as they learn. Learning is a life long process; we should learn as much as we can, because who actually knows what we will need to know in the future?
Math comes easy for some and is a challenge for others. One of my goals is to guide you through this learning process. With hard work, effort, and good time management, you should be successful in the class. Have a positive attitude and have confidence in your skills and abilities!!!!!!
“What you are capable of achieving is determined by your talent and ability. What you attempt to do is determined by your motivation. How well you do something is determined by your attitude.” - Coach Lou Holtz

My name is
Steve Rayle and I am a member of the ECPI online
faculty. I was born, raised, and currently live in
Orlando, Florida. I have moved around a few times
though; North Carolina, Georgia, California, and Texas
have also been called home. The Marine Corps saw fit to
give me a few different addresses as well.
I am a Sergeant with the Florida Department of
Corrections. I am also an associate professor of
criminal justice for a community college in Orlando and
a former criminal justice professor for a private
Florida university. I enjoy tremendously both the
on-ground and the online delivery formats for learning.
I have spent much time in online education environments,
so I understand well the problems that may occur.
In addition, I serve on the Orlando Citizens Police
Review Board. Collectively, the board offers advice to
the police chief, the city council, and the mayor
concerning police policy, procedure, and internal
affairs issues. We also hold hearings for citizen
complaints concerning use-of-force issues, police
conduct, and other police-citizen encounters. We meet
monthly in the Orlando City Council Chambers. This
community service is personally very rewarding.
Please print out your syllabus. Should you develop
computer problems you will still be able to contact me.
Also, make contingency plans early for possible computer
problems. Computers are available at all ECPI campuses
and at the public libraries. If you develop technical
problems, one of these can be your backup system.
Again, welcome to ECPI Criminal Justice Online!

Marcia Thompson
Email: mthompson@ecpi.edu

Hey! My name is Marcia, just like on the Brady Bunch, except I'm not blonde.
I've been teaching IT and Tech classes at ECPI in the classroom since 2002 and online since early 2004. Before that, I was in the IT arena for about 16 years professionally, both in the textile and medical industries. Microsoft Windows is my primary area of expertise, but I've had experience with many other operating systems. My certifications include MCSE, MCSA, and Net+.
I love the flexibility of online learning. Students and instructors can be literally anywhere at anytime - on the beach with a wireless laptop or in a public library while traveling. The online platform is certainly very different from being in a classroom, and best suits the very disciplined student, but the rewards of learning in this unique structure are well worth it. I enjoy getting to know students on a totally different level than in the classroom. I've found students more willing to share of themselves and voice their concerns online than they may in the classroom.
When I picture an online class in my mind, I see a large round-table discussion, of which I am one of many. The discussions occur not just from me to the class, but between individual students, or between one student and the rest of the class. The middle of the table is open for anyone to toss in a new idea or issue, and everyone in the class can respond to it.

My name is
Vincent Tran, and I work as an IT consultant in Central
Florida in Oracle technologies and ECommerce/EBusiness
technologies. It isn't the sitting behind a computer for
most of the day that excites me, but it's the creative
aspect that sparks my interest. Developing really allows
both sides of my brain to work with the other. I seek
very challenging and difficult work to improve myself.
I have been a consultant for all my life (or so it feels
that way) and love the travel and challenging new work.
I greatly enjoy the high stress and difficulty in new
and innovative projects. I am usually requested to join
a company when there are strict deadlines or high end
projects.
I also enjoy teaching, but due to my traveling, I am
unable to teach in a classroom. Instead, I teach online
and love it! I am constantly connected to the internet
so you should always get a quick response time from me.
I look forward to working with all of you online and
getting to know all of you a little more before we get
started. I hope you'll enjoy the subject matter as much
as I do by the end of my classes!

Hello, everyone! My name is Dr.
Willis, and I teach English classes and offer writing
tutorials here at ECPI. Communication is one of the most
important skills cited by employers, and ECPI’s English
composition courses focus on building the skills you
will need to communicate clearly in writing. That may
seem a daunting task—I know writing can seem
intimidating—but we will work on writing as a process
that involves plenty of revision. Remember that no one
is a perfect writer, and everyone can build stronger
writing skills with practice. I look forward to getting
to know you either in a composition class or in the
online Writing Assistance Center.
I have been teaching ECPI for several years now, both
inseat and online. Before joining ECPI, I taught a
variety of English composition and literature classes at
the university level.
On my way to being an English instructor, I earned my
M.A. and Ph.D. in English Literature from Indiana
University. Like many of you, I know from personal
experience how challenging it is to balance coursework
with work and family responsibilities.
I also worked for more than six years as a senior
writer/editor for a government contractor in the
Washington, DC, area. That experience enables me to
offer comments on how your writing would be received in
the workplace and to discuss the demanding writing tasks
you may face on the job.
I live in Arlington, Virginia (just across a bridge from
Washington, DC), with my husband, daughter, and two
cats.

I am a lifelong learner, engineer, and a teacher. My primary emphasis in teaching is on the student. If you need help, that is why I am here.
I am semi-retired and work as a Senior Electrical Engineer and Information Systems Manager where I manage telecommunications and energy management projects. I have been a college lecturer part-time for 28 years, of which 5 years have been online. I love teaching, but until I retired, I could not afford to do it for a living. My wife and I have a busy computer business, which does not make a lot of money, but it keeps me on the cutting edge of IT issues and provides my wife with 401k savings.
I have an MSIS (Information Sciences) from the University of Maryland , an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from California State University , Fullerton , an MSEE (Electrical Engineering) from California State University , Long Beach , and BSEE (Electrical Engineering) from Kansas State University . I am a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer, a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT), a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), with A+/Network+ Certifications. I am a Supervising Electrician, an Electrical Contractor, an FCC 1st Class Radiotelephone electronics technician, and have an Airline Transport Pilot License.
